Make your text as smooth as silk

Are you using a laptop or flat panel display and run Windows XP? You’ll love this tip to make your text super sharp and highly readable on any LCD screen.

All you have to do is turn on the XP ClearType feature. This makes reading text easier and also enhances the readability of electronic books.

Turn it on and tune it, you can get additional information from the preceding link. This will take you to a Microsoft online wizard to run ClearType.

Alternatively, you can download the wizard so you can activate and tune ClearType settings using the Windows XP Control Panel.

Select the download location, choose ‘Run’ or save the file to a local drive and run it from there. Once it’s done installing, you have the option to run it immediately or later from the Control Panel under Appearances and Themes.

As for Windows 95/98/ME/2000 users, ClearType does not work for you, but Windows does have a limited font-smoothing feature. To enable it from Windows 98, ME and 2000, visit the ‘Effects’ tab on the ‘Display Properties’ control panel. Windows 95 users can use the Windows 95 font smoother utility.
