CA Anti-Spam 2007

Reviewer's Rating of CA Anti-Spam 2007: 4 out of 5

Overview:

Unsolicited e-mail messages continue to be a major annoyance. While Internet service providers and e-mail hosting solutions are working to keep spam at bay, some such messages still make it into inboxes.

CA Anti-Spam 2007 is one way to also keep spam at bay and away from your inbox. Messages are checked for e-mail-based phishing attacks and e-mail scams.

Pros of CA Anti-Spam 2007:

A very capable spam solution that works to keep your inbox spam free. Of the four CA security applications, this one impressed me the most. You can install it on up to three machines within your household. It is as simple as Yes or No with the Approve and Block buttons. Any suspicious messages are moved automatically to the CA Anti-Spam folder the application creates once you have installed it. It features a search box to assist in locating messages quickly. You can export and save your approved/disapproved senders list.

Cons of CA Anti-Spam 2007:

I had to disable the Outlook e-mail spam filter manually.
CA Anti-Spam 2007
It is just a toolbar, unlike the other CA security applications that happen to have a control window for changing settings/options. This application is programmed to work specifically with Microsoft e-mail clients such as Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Outlook, and Outlook Express. For those of you using Eudora, Mozilla SeaMonkey or Mozilla Thunderbird – unfortunately, this solution will not work for you. “Blocks 100% of Spam” is a lofty claim on behalf of CA. In reality, it took a couple of weeks to train the application – while it improved in catching and sequestering spam from my e-mail inbox, it did let a few slip through here and there. Besides, it flagged some message as spam, when the messages were actually legitimate and not spam. Not 100% effective – pretty darn close, though.

A very good application that keeps spam pretty much out of your inbox. Your e-mail client choices are limited to Microsoft e-mail clients for spam protection.
