You can change which software opens different files.

Question: Hi, TechnologyTips. I have a question regarding the “open with” command in Windows 95. I opened an unregistered file with Notepad, just to view the file. However, I forgot to uncheck the “always open with” check box. Now every time I look at that file it always opens it with Notepad.
Is there any way to change that file back to an unregistered file type? –R.B.

Answer: You can remove the file type in Windows Explorer.

Just click on the Options item in the View menu, and choose the File Types tab, says Microsoft Support.

In that tab, find the offending file type, highlight it, and click the Remove button.
